It’s one of the businesses that mature, as time passes. Surely this has to do with its name, since one “Daddy” can mature as his child grows up, acquiring experiences living with it. In the much-discussed area of Athens, Koukaki, “O Mpampas” is in the morning for coffee until late in the evening for drinks.
“O Mpampas” means in Greek “The Daddy”. The business definition is café-bar, but the experience is different. By investing in the greek microbrewery for years now, being one of the first places that supported the greek brewing scene, as well as in food, offering greek and national flavors for lunch and traditional greek bits and bites. In several dishes the portions are large. Try the Caesar’s salad and you will understand. At noon, you can meet several “suits” from the nearby offices. Besides Greek beers, “O Mpampas” offers a selection of imported labels and few mainstreams. In the evenings it offers honest aperitivos and cocktails. It does not claim laurels as a cocktail bar, but it is a place where we can enjoy our drink more alternatively. For the more relaxed, it offers wine that is accompanied as well as beer with a great variety of cheeses and sausages, many of which come from the islands of Kos and Crete (again greek products).
The decoration is more relaxed, with several elements that refer to the previous decades, in which most of us grew up. Vinyls, trumpets, old shutters, along with special constructions such as the Blues Brothers or the table at the center of the hall, differ from the classic “rtd” furniture that we see in most businesses. I’m not saying that everything is done by the “Mpampas ower-Andreas Marangos” himself, but many of them show that he is a businessman who spends enough time at his business. Simple lines, playful and nostalgic mood accompanied by disco, rhythm and blues, soul, jazz and indy rock musical sounds.
“O Mpampas” is a spot for summer exits, at the tables in the square or indoors in winter. Ideal place for weekdays and weekends.
