Trip to Patras this time. The new road has made the route safer and at the same time reduced the distance and time it takes to drive to the capital of Achaia, from Athens, allowing for a more frequent visit to enjoy the “hidden” diamonds of the big student campus.
When I heard about the “Abbey – Kitchen Bar” I was thinking of a bar with some simple food accompaniment. Chef’s work (Dionysia Argyridi) confirms what I’m saying about diamonds. The menu includes brunch, lunch, dinner and vegetarian suggestions as well. I will briefly suggest what I have tried and consider them to be “must eat”: quinoa salad with balanced acidity, an excellent calf yuvetsi, kebab burger and a delicious baked orange cream dessert. If you are two people try the “Souvla”. Everything fits perfectly with beer and wine. The beer list supports local brands with two microbreweries the DIONI and KYKAO and the revived by the Athenian Brewery “MAMOS” with tradition and origin from Patras. The list offers imported beers such as Estrella’s Lager, along with other classics.
For the drinks and cocktails, I will comment that they have set the bar high. Ieronymos, Argyris and all those behind the bar every day and night, are offering full experiences to their guests. In its favor, always smiling service people, who are friendly, helpful and informed about their food and drink.
At first glance, you can see that this is a cozy environment dominated by dark colors and wood. The bar extends outdoors. The interior, main space is reminiscent of Athens and abroad. The cafeteria is separated from the bar. Going up the ladders there is a more “private” bar with three tables -once there was a monastery type table- with a “view” from the railing to the entire inner ground floor.
“Abbey – Kitchen Bar” is an all-day business that has set the standards high in the region since 2012 and is an example for many similar businesses in terms of products and services that it offers.
